Since 2011, the International Girls in ICT (Information Communications Technology) Day has been celebrated around the world on April 28, with participation of more than 177,000 girls and young women. Despite the huge offering of career options in tech, IT based organizations globally seem to have a significant shortage of applications from women.
This is an issue Greenqloud has been addressing since 2013 with the Women in Tech Iceland initiative, so it goes without saying that during the International Girls in ICT Day we couldn’t sit still. Greenqloud is eager to encourage all tech-savvy talent to pursue a career in tech, so we invited 22 fifteen year old girls to our office for a thorough introduction of the varied career options available in our industry.
Greenqloud’s growing team of talented women spoke with the girls and walked them through a tech-related assignment, involving a small glimpse into infrastructure management with Qstack. We asked the girls to create their own Virtual Machine, from which they could access our Bunnies of Doom and issue them with their own commands.
All in all, we seem to have succeeded in providing them with a powerful message of how rewarding and cool working in the tech industry really is.
